Kogut & Wilson Welcomes Karen A. VanderMeer to the Firm
Kogut & Wilson is pleased to announce the addition of Karen VanderMeer to the team as a senior associate, concentrating her practice in all areas of family and matrimonial law.
Karen brings more than a decade of experience representing individuals in domestic relations matters and advising clients on issues involving:
- Divorce,
- Allocation of parental responsibilities,
- Parenting time,
- Child support,
- Spousal maintenance,
- Both premarital and postnuptial agreements, as well as
- Post-decree enforcement and modification matters.
She is equally adept at handling matters through negotiated resolutions and contested litigation, developing case strategies tailored to the circumstances of each matter.
Prior to joining Kogut & Wilson, Karen practiced family law in Chicago, representing clients in all phases of domestic relations matters. Earlier in her career, she served as a 711 certified law clerk at the Cook County Office of the Public Guardian, where she represented children in domestic relations proceedings. She also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Veronica Mathein in the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Karen received her J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2012 and her B.A. in Philosophy from Brandeis University in 2007. While in law school, she volunteered with victims of domestic violence, offering legal assistance and other services.
Karen has been recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyers "Rising Star" from 2019 through 2022. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, where she has served on the Family Law Section Council and the Young Lawyers Division Section Council, and is also a member of the Will County Bar Association. She volunteers as a Lawyer Mentor with Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, as a volunteer attorney with CARPLS and with the Chicago Bar Association's Lend-A-Hand Program.
