Nike Román
nike@kogutwilson.comNike Román practices in all areas of family and matrimonial law, with previous experience representing clients in domestic violence situations and as a guardian ad litem in juvenile courts. She conducts trial and hearing preparations as well as negotiations and routinely corresponds with clients, therapists, foster parents and agency staff.
Having navigated sensitive and complex family law matters including abuse, neglect and dependency proceedings since the start of her legal career, Nike provides the utmost respect and compassion to clients, detailing options to help them make decisions that are in their best interest.
She is fluent in Spanish and guides Spanish-speaking clients through their complex issues.
Education
Nike graduated with her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law with a focus in Public Interest Law in 2020. While in law school, she received the President’s Award for Service as well as the Center for Public Interest Law Fellowship, reflecting her deep commitment to public service and dedication to helping the community.
She received her B.A. in Chicano/Latino Studies and Legal Studies from Scripps College in 2016.
Employment
Before joining Kogut & Wilson, Nike served as an attorney at the Cook Country Public Guardian’s Office, where she represented clients ranging from birth to age 21 as an attorney and guardian ad litem.
She also worked as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society—Safe Families Program, where she represented survivors of domestic violence and advocated for her client’s interests in court proceedings and negotiations. While in law school, she also interned for the Legal Aid Society as well as the Center for Disability & Elder Law, Ascend Justice (previously known as the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic), Life Span and Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.
