Sabrina Karakaya concentrates her practice in all areas of family and matrimonial law with extensive experience in domestic violence matters. As a certified Illinois Domestic Violence Professional by the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, she understands the intricacies involved in working with domestic violence victims and provides the utmost compassion to all clients.

Sabrina knows clients can face general discomfort in their divorce and family law matters and makes it a priority to guide them through these experiences as seamlessly as possible.

Fluent in Polish, Sabrina assists Chicago’s extensive Polish-speaking community in addressing their family law issues. 

Education

Sabrina received her J. D., cum laude from University of Illinois at Chicago John Marshall Law School in 2021. During law school, Sabrina served as an Associate Justice on the Moot Court Honor’s Council Executive Board, President of the UIC John Marshall American Constitution Society Chapter and as a Teaching Assistant in various subjects, including Lawyering Skills and Torts. Due to her various involvements in the school and community, Sabrina was awarded the Dean’s List Scholarship, Judge’s Scholarship and was the recipient of the 2020 Women’s Bar Foundation Scholarship.

In Spring 2021, she was an Octofinalist in the Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Moot Court Competition.

Sabrina received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science, with a minor in Philosophy of Law, with Honors from Lewis University in 2012.

Employment

Prior to joining the firm, Sabrina worked as a law clerk at a prominent personal injury law firm. As a law clerk, she worked on numerous high-profile cases, including leading the firm’s law clerks on COVID-related matters and performing client interviews.

While earning her law degree, Sabrina worked with UIC John Marshall Family Law and Domestic Violence Legal Clinic, where she assisted clients in obtaining Orders of Protection, legalizing their immigration statuses and navigating marriage and domestic violence proceedings.

Sabrina also served in a domestic relations judicial externship where she gained valuable experience in all aspects of family law.

Community Involvement

Sabrina’s passion for aiding domestic violence victims extends beyond her professional experiences. Beginning in 2015, she has continued to serve as a Domestic Violence Victim Advocate with Mutual Ground, an emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence.

She previously volunteered as Fundraising Coordinator for Burlas Aviation Inc., a nonprofit organization striving to increase public interest of aviation.
