Kogut & Wilson Welcomes Darby Groberman and Nike Román to the Firm

Kogut & Wilson is pleased to announce two new additions to the team as associates: Darby Groberman and Nike Román. Both attorneys focus their practices in all areas of family and matrimonial law.

Darby has experience in conducting, compiling and organizing research for a variety of causes, as well as creating and drafting documents for a multitude of agreements. Her experience from different legal disciplines grants her a more comprehensive perspective on family law matters.

Prior to joining Kogut & Wilson, Darby served as a legal intern at a coalition aiming to reform the Michigan immigration system, eliminate the root causes of economic and racial injustice and protect the environment. She was also an extern for the Center for Community Based Enterprise, where she drafted documents for corporate conversions and researched legal issues.

Darby received both a Canadian J.D. from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and a U.S. J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2023. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2018.

Nike has navigated sensitive and complex family law matters including abuse, neglect and dependency proceedings since the start of her legal career. She conducts trials, hearing negotiations and corresponds with clients, foster parents, therapists and agency staff.  

Before joining Kogut & Wilson, Nike served as an attorney at the Cook County Public Guardian’s Office, where she represented clients ranging from birth to age 21 as an attorney and guardian ad litem and as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society – Safe Families Program, where she represented survivors of domestic violence.

Nike earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law with a focus in Public Interest Law in 2020, where she received the Center for Public Interest Law Fellowship as well as the President’s Award for Service. She received her B.A. in Chicano/Latino Studies and Legal Studies from Scripps College in 2016 and is fluent in Spanish.
